Jeon Woochi

Long ago, some goblins stole a valuable flute and started to wreak havoc with it. A trio of Taoist wizards ask for the help of two religious men, Cheonggwan and Hwadam, who put the troublemaking goblins in a jar. They break the magic flute into two and each assumes responsibility for one half so they don't succumb to the temptation of possessing it.

때는 조선 중기, 별안간 요괴들이 출몰해 전설의 피리 만파식적을 훔쳐 세상을 어지럽힙니다. 신선들은 당대 최고 도인이었던 천관대사와 화담을 찾아가 도움을 요청하는데요, 요괴들를 봉인한 뒤 만파식적을 둘로 나누어 두 도인이 각각 맡아 보관하도록 합니다.

Later, Cheongwan is found dead and Woochi, a troublemaking disciple of Cheongwan is soon framed for the murder of Cheongwan and is doomed to a 500-year sentence inside a painting.

후에, 천관대사가 죽은 체 발견되고, 신선들은 천관대사의 제자였던 말썽쟁이 전우치가 범인이라고 보고 500년동안 그림 족자 속에 가두는 벌을 내립니다.

Back to present day, when the goblins escape from their jars, however, the wizards are unable to track down Hwadam and are thus forced to conjure Woochi from the painting. They ask him to catch the goblins, promising him a promotion to the ranks of a true Taoist master in return.

시간은 어느 덧 흘러 21세기가 되고, 봉인 된 요괴들이 다시 모습을 드러내기 시작합니다. 신선들은 화담을 찾아보지만 수행을 목적으로 잠적한 그를 찾아내지 못하자 족자에 갇혀있던 전우치를 불러냅니다.

Woochi however is more interested in exploring the 21st-century Seoul, and soon runs into a woman who seems to be the reincarnation of Woochi's love interest from 500 years ago.

요괴들을 잡아오면 족자에 갇히는 봉인에서 풀러주겠다는 말에 길을 나선 전우치. 너무나 달라진 서울의 모습에 끌어오르는 호기심을 감추지 못하고 세상 구경하던 차, 500년전 관심녀였던 과부의 환생을 보고선 곧바로 작업에 들어갑니다.

The film stars Baek Yoon-sik, Kang Dong-won and Im Soo-jeong was directed by Choi Dong-hoon. The movie has already set the highest opening-day figure set by a Korean movie which opened this year. The film opened on December 23rd. For more information, check out http://www.jeonwoochi.co.kr/.
