Acclaimed Fashion Designer Andre Kim Dies

Acclaimed South Korean fashion designer Andre Kim died on Thursday, several weeks after being admitted to Seoul National University Hospital with pneumonia. He was 75. Actors and actresses who often worked with Kim --- including Won Bin, Jeon Do-yeon and Kim Hee-sun --- also paid their respects at the altar. President Lee Myung-bak and other figures from the government and financial sector sent flowers to Kim’s family to convey their condolences. According to Kim’s family, the nation’s leading designer worked until the very end preparing for his fall fashion show.

South Korea soccer team Beats Nigeria 2-1 in Friendly

The South Korean national soccer team and new coach Cho Kwang-rae tallied their first victory with Cho at the helm on Wednesday with a 2-1 win in a friendly against Nigeria. Nigeria leveled out the score in the 27th minute when Osaze Odemwingie headed in Kalu Uche's free kick. But a spot-on pass from Park Ji-sung to Choi Hyo-jin in the 44th minute resulted in the game’s deciding goal. The match marked the second time the two nations have faced one another in as many months following their 2-2 draw in the World Cup in South Africa.

Lotte Slugger Sets World Homer-Hitting Streak

Slugger Lee Dae-ho of the Korean pro baseball team Busan Lotte Giants has set a world record by hitting a home run in nine straight games.

Lee is leading the Korean league with 38 home runs this season. The previous domestic consecutive home run-hitting streak had been six set by three players. Among U.S. Major League Baseball players, Ken Griffey Jr., Don Mattingly and Dale Long each had home run-hitting streaks of eight games. Before setting the world record Saturday, Lee broke the Korean mark Thursday and the Asian mark Friday.
