Gangnam is one of 25 districts that make up the city of Seoul. This area represents the social center for the area south of the Han River and also the one of the busiest areas of Seoul. Several popular shopping and entertainment areas are located in Gangnam-gu, including Apgujeong, the COEX Mall and the area around Gangnam Station. The area around the Gangnam staion often serves as a meeting place for young people in Korea.

Recently, Gangnam has become famous for its dense population of medical facilities; they have over 35 percent of medical clinics or hospitals in Seoul, and more than 70 percent of the plastic surgeons in the city. Thus, there has been an increasing amount of profits from medical tourism. According to Gangnam district office, the area saw a 25% jump in the number of foreign visitors to its clinics last year.

One popular place among tourists is Namsan park. It is located in the Jung-gu district of south central Seoul. The mountain and surrounding area is a public park maintained by the city government. It offers some hiking, recreation and views of downtown Seoul's skyline. The N Seoul Tower is also located on top of Namsan, and is a popular spot for a panoramic view of Seoul.

Another favorite place among foreign tourists, especially young tourists, is Dongdaemun Market, often abbreviated as DDM. This is a market and shopping center in Jongno-gu of Seoul, near Dongdaemun from which the market takes its name. It was first opened in July, 1905, and now developed into one of the largest shopping center in South Korea. In total the market has 26 shopping malls situated over 10 blocks, 30,000 speciality shops, and 50,000 manufacturers according the the research done in 2008.

외국인 관광객, 그 중 특히 젊은 학생들 사이에서 인기 많은 서울의 관광지는 바로 DDM이라고도 불리는 동대문 시장입니다. 동대문 시장은 서울 종로구에 위치하고 있고, 항상 많은 인파가 몰리는 곳입니다. 동대문은 1905년 7월에 처음 개장해, 지금은 한국에서 가장 큰 쇼핑 센터 중 하나가 되었습니다. 2008년도에 행해진 조사에 따르면, 이곳에는 26개의 쇼핑몰이 있고, 30,000곳의 상점, 그리고 50,000여 개의 제조업자들이 모여있다고 합니다.

The market sells goods that range from just about everything, but DDM is notably famous for silks, clothes, shoes and leather goods, and sporting goods. There are also many famous restaurants and delicacies around DDM. The market was traditionally a night market and wholesalers once operated from 1:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. Now, the area is from 10:30 a.m. to 5:00 a.m., with some stores open 24 hours a day.

DDM에서 파는 물건들은 매우 다양하지만, 이곳은 특히 실크, 의류, 신발 및 가죽 제품으로 유명합니다. 또한, 근처에 많은 유명 식당과 먹거리들이 위치해 있다고 합니다. 동대문 시장은 본래 도매상인들을 위한 야간시장으로 새벽 1시부터 오후 1시까지 열렸었지만, 지금은 오전 10시 반부터 새벽 5시까지 열린다고 합니다. 그리고, 24시간 동안 운영하는 상점도 많이 있다고 하네요.
